Marketing Mix

Advertising Mix

The title says Marketing Mix and the sub heading is Adverting Mix, so why is that?

The answer is “Promotional Strategies!”

Before continuing I would like to tell you an anecdote from my past about “Marketing Sales and Promotion” that will show you the power of having a simple but powerful “Marketing Technique!”

It was in the early 1950’ I was maybe 5 or 6 years old we lived in the countryside back then a small place called Laingholm, New Zealand, gravel roads full of pot holes.

As kids we loved it the beach was a 3 minute walk, anyway before I go off on a tangent.

The closet shop was a good hours walk there and back on a very windy road as I said gravel road so you didn’t want to forget anything at the shops.

Marketing Sales and Promotion

This is where I first became aware of what enterprise was as I understand it to be today.

An Indian gentleman would come around a couple of time a week selling fresh vegetables and fruit his name I hope I spell it right was Narn Dhana and mum and the whole neighbourhood would buy from him.

Upon reflection I know why, because all the kids where we lived loved him (If you want to capture a market as for example as MacDonald’s has you target the kids)

He didn’t have a degree in marketing but he used his commonsense and it paid off.

He got a newer and bigger truck and started selling all sorts of merchandise things that kids like he would ask us all what we liked, “Street Smarts” maybe, yes he came around for many years as I got older.

So Why Did We Like Him?

Come on at least have a guess we’re talking about “Marketing Sales and Promotion” back in the 50’s.

No TV only Radio and he used a marketing technique now employed by “Fast Food Chains” and promotional companies world wide.

NO!

He didn’t give us toys!

Yet every kid in our school knew him, come on read it again no TV only Radio!!!!

Every commercial on the Radio and TV uses this promotional technique, hello!

Guess Again!

Give Up?

Yes I’m sure some of you have now realised!

It Starts With “M”

I have to say that I have always remembered this gentleman the same as I still remember the catch phrase when I was selling for “Combined Insurance” the smartest thing I ever did in 1979 that has created my successful careers in whatever I did thank you W. Clement Stone one of his many quotes that I loved was “If you are really thankful, what do you do? You share.”

There are many of his quotes I remember!

Sorry folks I have to go!

Have a think about what I have written and maybe I’ll tell yo in my next post????
